Flex in practice

From a signed flex contract to flex you can rely on.

Contracting flexibility is the first step. Calling it every day, at many stations, and knowing it delivered, asks for processes, data and platforms that are ready for it. We help grid operators build that.

Where it gets stuck

Pilots work. Running flex at scale is a different job.

  • Every station is a new project

Contracts, onboarding and set-up are rebuilt each time, so flex does not scale beyond a few locations.

  • Forecast and call are not connected

The congestion forecast, the decision to call and the call via GOPACS sit with different teams and tools.

  • Nobody owns the daily routine

Control room, flex team and account management each hold part of the process, without clear roles.

  • Delivery is hard to verify

Without measurement and settlement agreed up front, it is unclear whether flex delivered and what to pay.

What we help with

Six things that make flex operations stable

Operating model and roles

Who forecasts, who decides to call, who talks to the CSP, and who checks delivery. Written down so control room, flex team and account management work from one routine.

From forecast to call

The chain from congestion forecast to day-ahead or intraday call via GOPACS, with clear decision points and fallbacks.

Platform and integration readiness

How GOPACS, CSP and BSP systems, asset control and your own systems connect, and what has to be in place before you add the next location. Where a link is missing, our engineers build it inside your environment.

Verification and settlement

Baselines, measurement and settlement agreed up front, so you know whether flex delivered and what it cost.

Standards for scale

Standard contracts, onboarding steps and playbooks, so each new station is a repeat, not a new project.

Testing under real conditions

Mobile batteries as a test set-up at a real substation, to prove the full chain before you contract at scale.

Done before

We have run the full chain, not just advised on it

Enexis

The substation pilot behind a national tender

Mobile flexibility made callable day-ahead via GOPACS and SEP, with control and dispatch partners. The set-up was repeated at De Efteling and became the basis for a national tender.

Alliander Powered

Two contracts, one set of batteries, five partners

Batteries answered day-ahead calls under a CBC contract and intraday redispatch requests, all via GOPACS. We connected the partners so that several grid service operators could control the same set-up safely.

Since 2021 we have built and run software for mobile grid stabilisation, including the Grid Services Module that let several parties control one battery set-up in the Alliander project. We bring that capability into your organisation as part of an engagement, built around your platforms and processes. It is not a product you subscribe to.

How we work

Four steps from pilot to routine

  1. Readiness review

Processes, roles, data and platforms reviewed against what daily flex operations need. You get a gap list in order of priority.

  2. Prove the chain

One or two stations run end to end, from forecast to settlement, with real assets and real calls.

  3. Standardise

Playbooks, standard contracts and onboarding steps, so the next stations follow the same route.

  4. Scale with your teams

We stay alongside your teams as regions and rules change, until they run it without us.
