What is a congestion-mitigating measure?
A congestion-mitigating measure is not a contract in the traditional sense, but a commitment from the customer to the grid operator: "I will adjust my usage so that I cause less congestion." In return, the customer gets priority for grid connection and thus spends less time on the waiting list.
How does it work?
This instrument is intended for customers who would otherwise have to wait years for a connection. The measure can involve:
- Charging outside peak hours
- Limiting maximum power
- Limiting full-load hours
The financial compensation works the same as with a CSC.
When is this attractive?
This is particularly attractive if:
- You've been on the waiting list for years for a (heavy) connection
- You have room within your contracted power to fully charge a battery of +1MW and 4MWh (4-hour battery) โ for example at night when there's no production
- You can deploy this battery to reduce your power consumption by 1MW or feed power back to the grid
The key difference
With a CBC or CSC, you're managing congestion on an existing connection. With a congestion-mitigating measure, you're proving to the grid operator that you'll burden the grid less โ and getting connected sooner as a result.
