Skoon Energy and Eddy Grid join forces to introduce a network of Energy Hubs. At these hubs, mobile batteries from Skoon’s rental marketplace can be deployed between bookings to alleviate grid congestion. Through this joint effort, Skoon and Eddy Grid ensure that these batteries remain active, contributing to a stable electricity grid while opening up new revenue streams for both battery owners and grid connection owners. This results in a shorter payback period for mobile battery systems, enabling owners to invest more quickly in this crucial technology for the energy transition.

Thanks to the collaboration, all battery owners managing their operations through Skoon’s rental software can take advantage of this opportunity. They can easily use their systems to mitigate imbalances and congestion on the power grid while generating additional income. Skoon’s marketplace currently boasts a rapidly growing capacity of over 400 MW in Europe. Through the partnership with Eddy Grid, this capacity can be effectively utilized to reduce pressure on the power grid and generate extra revenue for Skoon’s platform users. This provides grid operators with relief in addressing costly network reinforcements needed due to grid congestion.

Entities with large connections that are not fully utilized can sign up with Skoon or Eddy Grid and will be guided in preparing their connections. The advantage for locations is twofold. Firstly, the entire connection is regularly utilized, making the potential “use it or lose it” rule, expected to be enforced in the new energy law next year, irrelevant. The revenue is shared with the location, turning an initial cost into a source of income!

To provide perspective, with the installation of two 10-foot container batteries (0.5MW), battery owners can earn over €150,000 per year, and locations can earn €26,000 per year.

The first Energy Hub is already live in Zwolle and was realized in collaboration with location manager E&CO within three weeks. The initial setup of 500 kW / 1 MWh installed comes from battery owner B-Charge, ensuring immediate revenue generation from the start.

The next locations are expected to be delivered in Q1 2024. Throughout the year, a network of various decentralized locations will be added.
