ITV, the British television network, recently made the switch from a diesel generator to a hybrid solution with a battery system the film set of Love Island in Gran Canaria. This decision was driven by a desire to reduce costs, improve air quality, and increase reliability.

In the old situation, two large diesel generators powered the full set. One as main power supply and one as back-up. The new hybrid set-up means that the battery is placed central in the energy supply, and is charged by one diesel generator. As a result, the generator runs only when the battery commands it to, and at the most efficient power output possible. This reduces the running hours of the diesel generator by 80% and the diesel savings by up to 50%. By switching to a hybrid solution with a battery system, ITV was able to reduce these costs and save money in the long run.

Another benefit of the switch was the improvement in air quality. Diesel generators emit harmful pollutants that can have negative impacts on the environment. By switching to a battery system, ITV was able to reduce their carbon footprint and help improve the air quality in the community.

Overall, the switch from a diesel generator to a hybrid solution with battery system was a smart move for ITV on their film set in Gran Canaria. The decision not only reduced costs and improved air quality, but it also increased reliability and helped the company become more self-sufficient. Other film and television production companies may want to consider making the switch as well.
