Skoon Energy receives acknowledgement for their ideas to accelerate the energy transition by enabling fully electric sailing with the use of swappable batteries. The maritime start-up was shortlisted to present at the Startup Funding Event on April 12th in Rotterdam. The judges granted this start-up with the award, consisting of consultancy and coaching, worth over € 42,000 to assist in bringing this idea to the market.

‘They were chosen by the judges, because of the practicality of their business model as well as the social cause, and innovation that they represent to the industry.
Changing the world of energy to a cleaner, greener and more efficient way of operating. They have the potential to truly change the course of the maritime industry, and we wish them the best!’

The concept of Skoon consists of efficient deployment of generated clean energy for mobile or temporary applications. They do this by developing and managing a network of special swappable batteries. This guarantees accessibility to large amounts of clean energy, wherever and whenever it’s needed. The batteries are of a standard size, to enable transport and use in today’s infrastructure.

Efficient management and distribution enables an economically viable use of clean energy, offering the customer a ‘pay per use’ possibility. This takes away the need for high capital investments on the side of the end-user. Starting with the maritime industry, Skoon Energy will offer the same concept to many other solutions on land as well. For example, as an alternative for generators running on fossil fuels, to power events, music festivals or construction sites.

The concept drew the attention earlier this year at the Maritime Energy Transition Event. Here, the corporate strategy directors of the port of Rotterdam and the port of Amsterdam honoured the founders, Peter Paul van Voorst and Daan Geldermans, with an award for ‘the most promising start-up’.

The Innovation Funding Award is an initiative from Why Not 3, Lightning Video Editors, World Startup Factory, TNO, Venture Café, Accenture, KPN, PostNL and the city of Rotterdam. The price consists of coaching, consultancy and development of several marketing tools to assist Skoon Energy in gaining a stronger market position. “Daan and I are very honoured to receive this award and we’re looking forward to see the result of it in making our mission reality!” Said Peter Paul van Voorst.
